I absolutely love movies. This week alone, I watched Fruitvale Station and Hannah Arendt, both of which I loved for very different reasons.
Here are some films I’m excited for:
2 Guns, Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg
I mean…it’s Denzel. He may be getting up there in years but he is still one of the sexiest black men on the face of the planet.
Plus, it’s a stick-em-up movie.
Yes! Another British spy film! As a postcolonial, I cannot resist. And Riz Ahmed is it. He is absolutely gorgeous!
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Idris Elba
Of course I can’t wait for this film (even though the trailer looked a tad predictable). Idris Elba as Mandela? Who knew Stringer Bell had it in him! If he plays this role convincingly, he could be up for an Oscar. Maybe.
I love you Idris!!! I’m still waiting for Stringer Bell to be resurrected. Love that man.
Half of a Yellow Sun
Oh. my. gosh. My heart was in my hand as I watched the trailer. It’s produced by the producers of Last King of Scotland and The Constant Gardener. Both films use the landscape well, so I’m especially excited to see how they will capture the two sisters’ relationship in the midst of national turmoil…also, Thandie Newton! Chiwetel Ejiofor! Anika Noni Rose! I mean, the cast looks AMAZING! All of them are actors’ actors.
I can’t wait to read the book. And I can’t wait for the film.
The trailer is chilling. The main character, played by Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, is wrongly accused of sexually assaulting a child, and becomes the target of a witch hunt. It looks amazing.
And I do like Mads Mikkelsen.
Ain’t Them Bodies Saints
This is a bit of a Bonnie and Clyde film, according to IFC. A shootout happens, and a man’s pregnant wife shoots a cop by mistake. He takes the fall for his wife, and she promises to wait for him. He gets out, it looks like she hasn’t waited for him. The trailer is shot beautifully.
ahhhh! so many movies! so little time.
